
Tobacco Recovery Coalition of the Capital District
MISSION STATEMENT
The Tobacco Recovery Coalition of the Capital District is a group of providers that work together to address tobacco dependence, and to promote recovery from tobacco dependence in our organizations and treatment programs. Our objective is to develop strategies and support each other’s efforts to be tobacco-free facilities and grounds and address abstinence from tobacco and tobacco products in our organizations and with the people we serve.
GOALS
- Develop a policy framework for providers to utilize as a resource for establishing and maintaining tobacco-free facilities.
- Identify funding sources to assist in the provision of education to staff as well as nicotine replacement therapies and educational resources.
- Identify strategies to support and promote staff recovery from tobacco dependence.
- Provide support to providers to make commitment to establish of tobacco-free facilities.
- Identify strategies to support the integration of tobacco dependence services into the chemical dependency treatment service delivery system.
- Provide educational resources, curricula, and training to providers.
- Advocate to establish a reimbursement rate for treatment services.
- Develop partnerships with affiliated groups such as ASAP, OASAS, Capital District Tobacco Free Coalition, AAPNY, etc.
The following fifteen agencies in the Capital Region have pledged to become tobacco-free programs by February 14, 2007:
To support this regional effort, the Coalition and the Center for Smoking Cessation of Seton Health offer the following trainings to prepare chemical dependency providers to integrate tobacco dependence treatment into their treatment programs and establish tobacco-free environments:
